4th & 7th of July!

Oh they love their fireworks, the Yanks. Macy's fireworks in New York on Independance Day is a big thing. You either watch it on TV, take your boat there and watch it from the sea or take the train to be in New York City where the action is. Dave and I chose the latter.

Rick & Beth (our hosts) on Times Square, July 4th 2012
But it turned out to be one of the hottest days so far. 35 degrees or more in New York is a bit too much. It was still nice to be there though and our host family were very good in taking us there and showing us the best spots. So, the four of us and about 399 996 other people enjoyed the show in the heat, phew!

On July 7th, it's the town of Greenwich's turn to have their fireworks. We were invited to a barbecue party at Maura & John's in Old Greenwich and that evening turned out to be far better than the one in New York. There were less people, more of an ambiance and a more genuine american feel to it. Everyone dragged their beach chairs out in the street and sat there, socialising with their neighbours and waiting for the fireworks to start. And I have to admit that these were impressive fireworks, even though I'm not really one of those people who think fireworks is the coolest thing ever. But we had a great time.
Beth's 4th of July cake and, of course, one cake is not enough, there were cookies and other cakes too...

Next time, there will be more pics from the finished sculptures in the park and the party afterwards...
Cherioo!
